Man who married girl alleged to be 17 years old finally speaks, says their wedding was divinely ordained (video)

The 33-year-old man who married a girl alleged to be 17 years old has finally spoken up after the outcry generated by his wedding. According to him, his wife is 18, not 17, and their marriage was divinely ordained by God.

Okechuckwu Tochukwu Emmanuel, 33, married Blessing Udoye, who sources say will turn 18 in September, without the knowledge and consent of the family in Imo State and her brother raised the alarm just before the wedding held (read here).
According to her brother, the wedding was planned for almost six months but was hidden from the girl’s family because the couple's church, Fishers of Men Charismatic church, ordered them to do so.

In a video released on the Church's Facebook page, Okechukwu claimed his wife is 18 plus and will turn 19 soon. He said her small stature is what caused people to assume she's underage but promised she'll put on weight soon. He also added that their marriage was divinely ordained by God.

All through the interview, Blessing stayed quiet beside him and looked completely lost. But in another interview conducted with Blessing alone, she spoke and revealed she was not forced into the marriage as her brother claimed.

Meanwhile, Fishers of Men Charismatic Church has released a statement addressing the scandal. They also released numerous video interviews to prove the marriage was conducted by following all the right protocols. One of the videos shows the mother of Blessing, Mrs Augustina Udoye, saying her consent and blessing were given for the wedding to take place.

Below is the statement. Also, below and some of the videos released by the church.
