In-laws condemn man’s new relationship six months after wife’s death

In-laws have stated their objection to a new relationship by their daughter’s husband six months after his wife died.

However, the 33-year-old widower who found love six months after his childhood sweetheart died from cancer says she would be happy for him.

As reported by The SUN, Jake Coates’ wife, Emmy, died in June 2017 from thyroid cancer, and he raised £142,000 for charity during her tragic fight for life.

The widower is now in a relationship with another woman, Jenna Selby, which he says his late wife would have approved of.

“Emmy wanted me to be happy. She wanted me to meet someone, she told me that,” the widower said.
On June 16, after a battle with thyroid cancer, Emmy passed away surrounded by her family, Jake as ever at her side
Jake also said he felt let down by Emmy’s family following her death, as they have been critical of how he has publicised his new relationship.

After news broke of his new love, Emmy’s sister, Sophie Collett, claimed she would be “devastated” and “break her heart.”

Jake said: “I will never personally say anything against Emmy’s family, but I did feel let down.

“I think if I had come out and said I had a girlfriend then, now or even a year from now, it would have been a hard pill for some people to swallow.”

After Emmy’s death, Jake said he would run 10 marathons to raise money in her name.
After breaking it off while they were at uni, the couple rekindled their romance ten years later
Jake and Jenna took a trip to Iceland as a couple — which Jake also doubled up as training for the marathons.

Jake had posted his new relationship on Instagram, to which Emmy’s sister, Sophie, had commented, saying the relationship had been “flaunted so publicly and insensitively.”

She wrote: “No only am I at a loss for words at the insensitivity of it, but I am also trying to maintain some dignity for Emmy.

“I can assure you this would break her heart and leave her devastated as it has for so many of us.”
